Malala Yousafzai is officially an icon after she
was named winner » of the 2014 Nobel
Peace Prize today, October 10.
The 17-year-old shares the award, worth $1.1
million, with Indian child rights campaigner,
Kailash Satyarthi .
Malala has come a long way from being a
young Pakistani schoolgirl fighting for equal
educational rights in country.

1. She was born on July 12, 1997 in
Pakistan
2. Her name “Malala” means "grief-stricken"
3. She was shot by the Taliban on October
9, 2012 for her outspokenness in
campaigning for equal educational rights
for young girls
